Urban interventions : personal projects in public spaces

Klanten, Robert ; Hübner, Matthias
Berlin : Gestalten, 2010

This book is a striking collection of the personal, often playful and thought-provoking installations in urban environments that use and react to walls, traffic signs, trees, ads, and any and all elements of the modern city. It is the first book to document these very current art projects – as well as their interplay with fine art, architecture, performance, installation, activism and urbanism – in a comprehensive way. This perceptive work brings art to the masses and helps us to rediscover our every day surroundings. It challenges us to question if the cities we have are the cities we need while adding a touch of magic to mundane places and situations. [editor summary]

The journey of Sebastian Errazuriz

Klanten, Robert ; Schulze, Floyd ; Grajales, Christina ; Viveros-Faune, Christian

My favorite works by Sebastien have always been his explorations of negative space, or perhaps it would be more accurate to say, the hidden dimensions of the piece that take time to be discovered. We were honored to be the first auction house to sell a work of Sebastien's, his Bowl Dinner Table, in which we placed a centerpiece of green apples during our exhibition. Since then, I have always admired the Piano Shelf and its successor the Porcupine Cabinet for their poetic functionality.

Doppelganger : Images of the Human Being

Klanten, Robert ; Ehmann, Sven ; Schulze, Floyd

Doppelganger presents current trends in capturing the visual identity of human beings. Each of its seven chapters explores a different creative approach : Embody, dissolve, perform, reshape, deform, appeal and escape. This book is compelling and entertaining collection of groundbreaking permutations of the outer human shell created with costumes and masks as well as photo-technical and artistic manipulation. While inventing, enhancing, obscuring, or altering identities, the images play with and often obliterate classical proportions and visual traditions. In doing so, they reveal further possibilities for what can be considered beautiful and fashionable. Doppelganger shows that the unique visual appearances being created today often reveal more about the identities of their subjects and creators than their real faces ever could.
